Solidarity mission of CO. Gargenville of France in Togo

A superb article of the tour with photos

The French rugby club C.O. Gargenville has been on a solidarity mission in the Togolese capital since the beginning of May 9, 2010. On the program, rugby schools to supervise and train children from the rugby schools of Lomé. They will benefit from Gargenville's teachings to improve in their respective teams and prepare for future competitions in their respective categories.

The senior clubs of Lomé will also have work sessions with the Gargenville team: training matches, exhibitions, etc.

In 18 years of experience, the Gargenville club has already made 4 trips to Romania, Ivory Coast, Spain and Cuba. All together, managers, players, and partners of the said clubs move forward with the same desire to live an unforgettable experience made of exceptional human values, namely: respect, solidarity, sharing, conviviality.

RUGBY in CUBA continued...

I returned in August 2007 to my in-laws' house located in the village of Pons in the Province of Pinar Del Rio in Cuba. The village has 3,000 inhabitants and the children regularly play baseball and also football.
I suggested to one of them to organize an introduction to Football-rugby (its name in Cuba) and the same day I found myself, around 5:00 p.m. "y pico" (which means 5:30 p.m. in Cuban), with 15 kids from 8 to 18 years old.
After the first training session and at their request, I organized 4 other training sessions in the following week, or 5 in one week. With the average temperature being 33°C on average at 6:00 p.m., the training was based on the fundamental techniques of passing, tackling, 2 against 1 and 3 against 2. The training sessions always ended with a very committed match and, at the end of each match, with a guard of honour for the losing team.

I was also able, on the occasion of Figaro's birthday at Playa de l'Est in Havana, to meet the current Havana rugby sevens players. Figaro asked me for news of the Gargenville club and passed on his good memories to the Gargenville players and managers who came in 2002. The Cuban Rugby coordinator, Chukin, offered him a ball from the 2007 World Cup on this occasion.

Figaro offered me to come the following Saturday to Camaguey on the occasion of the national tournament of Rugby 7. Camaguey (pronounced gamawouais) is one of the very big cities located in the center of the island on the road to Santiago de Cuba 500 km from Havana. I had the honor of refereeing 3 matches of a good technical level and physical commitment and in particular the team of Camaguey against the province of Guantanamo.

Regardless of the country where it is played, Rugby in Gargenville or Cuba has the same virtues and rules which are those of combat, respect and fraternal friendship.

Cuban Rugby Federation - 2014

In September 2014 the Cuban Rugby Federation was officially created. Rugby will experience a new boost on the largest Caribbean island. Our long-time friend Figaro (right) has become Vice-President. Baro on the left Sports Director (the 9 who played against Gargenville in 2002). On the far left a current player

Promo Rugby Gargenville

Founded in 1992 by André CAZAU, Christian CHAPELLE and Jean BIANCAT, manages the extra-sporting activity thus allowing to finance the end-of-season outings and the tours of the senior team.

Promo-Rugby coordinates all the festivities and entertainment, manages the club house, it is a driving force in the life of the club

During its tours, the club has never come empty-handed and has always brought equipment for the rugby schools of our hosts.

May our sponsors always be thanked for these charitable actions that are close to our hearts.

Claude MIREY

Claude left after a long illness. Gargenville's number one supporter, he was behind the pages every Sunday encouraging the team in his own way.
He was also on the tour in Cuba as a manager (2nd from the left). It is a great sorrow for all of us.

Alberto GRANADO

We also learned of the death of Alberto GRANADO on March 7, CHE's companion during his trip to Latin America (covered in the film Carnets de Voyage) before CHE met his Cuban destiny. CHE was a rugby player before leaving Argentina. André CAZAU and Christian Chapelle had met Alberto GRANADO (above) during the club's tour in 2002 in CUBA.

“Sponsors”, “Volunteers” and “TOGO: the return” evening. December 2010

The ticket of the president Ghislaine HELARY

Good evening and thank you all for being with us this evening.
We are very happy to resume the tradition that had been established in the past, namely, to bring together in one place all the actors of the life of our club.
There are those who act indirectly, the municipality and the partners and those who are involved on a daily basis either on the sporting level or in the administrative field.
The municipality by providing and maintaining the facilities, the André SAMITIER stadium, the loan of rooms for evenings and lotteries, the equipment necessary for all events and also, the subsidies.
The context, this year, is particular, we have understood it. We are doing everything possible to try to deal with the situation, the assessment will not be made until the end of the season.
Our partners, either by their financial assistance, or by providing equipment or by donations for the lottery for example.
Finally, our volunteers, the educators and coaches who supervise the teams, train and meet federal requirements, the managers who organize the life of the club, the competitions, the events and face the administrative requirements.
It is important that all these people are together, at least once a year, in order to get to know each other better, far from the constraints of everyday life. A club is not only its category, it is a whole where everyone comes to bring something and also to take something away, a place of life, of exchanges. It is, in the city and its surroundings, a place that has a social vocation. If we are all here, it is because we are convinced of it, but it is good to remind you.
I wanted to thank you very much for your contribution to all this and assure you of our deep gratitude.
We are currently setting up, around Cyril CHAPELLE, Jean-Baptiste JULIEN, Jean-Luc GUERVIN, Benoît POIRIER and Sébastien VAYER, young captain of the first team, a communication unit and a working group capable of setting up a real club project.
Twenty years of creation and stabilization, ten years of development and stabilization, now we must move on to a phase of new evolution. Improvement must be made in several areas, training, that of young people and educators, the level of play, reception structures and many other areas that will ensure that the club always evolves in the right direction. Of course, as many people as possible will be involved in this project, let's let it be born before making it grow.
Thank you again for your presence, your support and your dedication.
To complete this evening, the senior team wanted to make its contribution in its own way by sharing with you a project that they set up and carried out, that of the last tour to TOGO. I will give the floor to André CAZAU who supervised the organization, then I will let Madam Mayor say a few words to us by way of conclusion.
